HOME STRETCH

   Two more months.

Quite soon this epic journey that was the First Year of Medical School will be over. Just like that. Life spins faster than we expect it to. In the past semester I was able to get into the groove of studying for hours on end and learning - actually sort of learning - the material in each class! I think what really helped make classes manageable was the fact that I began to get involved in extracurricular activities. These include Yakima Health Equity Forum, Run For Your Life 2014, and Ophthalmology Club. Without these activities and the people I've worked closely with, I think school would be just shy of unbearable.

Oh yes, almost failed to mention last night's D.O.scars. (pronounced: DAW-SCORES, obviously). The very hilarious Missy presented herself as Dr. W.E. (a human version of google & wikipedia & a candy dispenser) and proceeded to slay us with a mock CIL. The rest of the evening was fine, but didn't quite measure up, until I took a few bites of chocolate chip cookie, then all was right with the world at large.

Anywho, to catch dear readers up, a couple of weeks ago I was fortunate to attend the AAO Convocation in Colorado Springs, CO during spring break and was able to meet other DO's in the field and really see osteopathy come to life. The group of students that attended this year were predominantly female and it was refreshing to be surrounded by like-minded, independent, and driven women.

Sitting in class for 8 hours each day can be very wearing on a young mind. Especially when you're in class trying desperately to care about the neural pathways of the spinothalamic tract and dorsal columns, you may find yourself delving into weird and rather disappointing internet news. Sadly today I found out that the Syrian refugees are still refugees - consistently heart breaking - and that people still think the ACA is a bad idea?! What is SO wrong with offering preventive medicine!? Why is there a conspiracy against health and longevity?

Readers, I always like to find interesting thought pieces for you. So in the future I will include interesting links to interesting topics. In the future. For now, I suggest looking up the Podcast WNYC Here's the Thing w/ Alec Baldwin, the non-homophobe and the book The Opposite of Loneliness by the late Marina Keegan.
