JHR Minutes #11

February 28, 2006 – Suzallo Café

Present: Nari Corley-Wheeler, Lily Le, Jacob Galfano

Projects:

Newsletter: The first edition of The Liaison is nearly complete! Layout is finished, editing has been initiated, and printing and distribution will culminate what was an interesting, frustrating, joyous, and rewarding process. Thank you to all who contributed, and the group looks forward to more participation from those waiting in the wings…

Next Theme: The group discussed ideas for the next issue’s theme, which included media, immigration, the prison industrial complex, and the U.S. Social Forum (the latter a possibility for the third issue, the final issue of this school year). If you have any suggestions, comments, critiques, etc., please don’t hesitate to email: j4hr@u.washington.edu We will be choosing the theme at our next meeting.

Online edition: Once JHR-USA has been launched, the group plans on creating a .pdf version of The Liaison (complete with links) for online viewing. If you would like to be a part of this process, please attend our next meeting!

Event: Following the success of our Guatemalan human rights speaker, another event will be co-sponsored by JHR that features a native Guatemalan who will be speaking in the Seattle area in April. The group will need help promoting and organizing the event; if you are interested, please attend our next meeting. This may be a great opportunity to try our hands at fundraising!

Other ideas might include sponsoring a different speaker, hosting a film/discussion, or perhaps a combination of the two.

Next Meeting: Will be held on Wednesday, March 7 at 1:30 pm at Suzallo Café. This will be the last meeting of this quarter; the next meeting after that will be held on Wednesday, March 28. Details to follow…
